Writer of the Week: Darío Aguilar Peregrina

Updated: May 7, 2023

Darío Aguilar Peregrina or Hurricane Dario as he is known on Twitter and Instagram has been most helpful to fellow indie authors this summer, heading up multiple online Virtual Book Fairs from Mexico all the way to New York City. However, it's his book that grabs the attention of readers and keeps them on the edges of their seats. Hang on because we're about to take on the storm that is Hurricanes 2007.

Podcast host Stacy Hawks first met Dario on Twitter in late 2019 constantly supporting one another's endeavors into the indie book world.

Dario is from Apatlaco, Iztapalapa, Mexico City, Mexico, home to many a famous landmark like Torre Latinoamericana, Bellas Artes, Reforma, Prehispanic Ruins, & more.

At 24 years old this Indie author writes multiple genres, "I write action, drama, comedy, music, sports and LGBT themes," Dario told us, "It was my grandpa who was a poet that inspired me to write at 6 years old and also to perform his poems in front of my classmates."

We asked Dario if there was a place he preferred to write over another and he shared, "I love to write at my home but I would also love to do it at the beach or in the forest."

Dario told the blog that he draws inspiration for his stories from a variety of places, but also from his childhood. "My imagination as a kid and many movies that I saw/see such as The Day After Tomorrow, MCU movies, The Dark Knight, Superman Returns, Disney Films and also the ones from an action figure I had named Max Steel."

When asked what books he enjoyed reading Dario said he enjoyed reading "a lot of history of my country or books from my childhood in Spanish such as Ndaku for Yaro, The Invisible Book Trilogy, 3333, and Somewhere in Atocha." Dario admitted that his favorite genre though is action.

For this indie author, the hardest part about self-publishing is, "Without a doubt, marketing. It's very exhausting but at the same time rewarding because you can meet other writers while having feedback from them in this process," and the easiest he says is, "that you control everything, from the book cover to the length of the book."

Although he is not part of a local writing group, Dario told us he is thankful to have met "other authors who have the same passion as me for writing."

When he is not plotting his next book or putting pen to paper, Dario said he enjoys a number of activities such as, "working out, swimming, playing videogames especially from The Sonic The Hedgehog franchise, Gears of War, FIFA and Just Dance."

If you enjoyed Hurricanes 2007 get ready because Dario is writing other books. "I have many more that I’m planning such as Brigade DXT, Latin Dancin, Relationships of The Law, DreamGamers and Códicemex," adding, " There will be other 3 books for The Hurricanes 2007 Saga. Brigade DXT, Latin Dancin, Códicemex, and the others will be totally new."

Because we all have a favorite quote or saying that has inspired us from time to time we asked Dario about his. He shared with us, "if you dream it, you can do it," by Walt Disney.

Dario offered this advice to fellow writers who are thinking about self-publishing, "It’s not the easiest but If you have passion for your stories, that will be reflected on how people see your work."
